Hi, I’m Janneke Marquez, the Community Manager here at MOMentity! I’m so excited to run the MOM Academy and you’ll see me in and out of all the MOMentity social media groups. But I realized you probably don’t know much about me. Let’s change that!

How did I cross paths with MOMentity?

I heard about Nicole and Momentity in 2013 at the first ever Pinners Conference in Utah. At that point in my life I was a SAHM mom to my 3-year-old son. I also had a portrait and birth photography hobby I was trying to launch into a business. I was working through some personal health issues, and my husband was finishing up his last semester in graduate school. I remember very clearly how I broke down in tears in a phone consultation with her – I knew I had the power to create a life filled with passion, purpose and joy, but I was still feeling overwhelmed because I couldn’t figure out how to balance it all. After talking with Nicole, I felt like she had some answers that could help me and I went through her Define Your Time course. It was perfect timing because right after that my life’s roller-coaster picked up speed – I finally got pregnant with our 2nd child, my husband finished his Master’s Thesis defense and accepted his first job post-school, and we moved our little family in a big U-Haul from Utah to Minnesota, in the middle of winter, to a new state far from any family or friends! We had a wonderful year there, but life took another turn and we headed back West to the Pacific Northwest which is where we are now. The Define Your Time principles helped me maintain perspective and balance through it all.

What is my favorite resource I get to share with you?
I am excited about what Nicole teaches and the community she has created on Facebook with the MOM Academy and MOM Rally Mondays! I am by no means an expert of the MOM Resolutions – I still struggle with things as life continues to ebb and flow.
I now have a 1st grader, a toddler refusing to potty-train, and a newborn baby girl who loves to be held. Life is crazy! And I know there are so many of you other moms who get it; that’s why I am excited to be a part of Nicole’s team and helping everyone stay informed and connected to the tools that help me balance everything (when I remember to use them!).
What is my favorite MOM Resolution?
Dreams Are Real. I’m a dreamer, sometimes to a fault! I have lots of ideas of things I want to be or do swimming around in my head. When I was little I wanted to be a teacher, veterinarian, marine biologist, professional dancer… just to name a few.
I started college working on a Pre-Vet degree but wound up getting a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management & Youth Leadership (the management of recreation programs, you know, like summer camps and after school activities). It created in me a passion for family recreation and I have a dream to one day own or operate a family retreat camp. I also pursued my dream of being a dancer in college. I toured 2 years as an ensemble member of the BYU International Folk Dancers which took me to 11 countries around the world performing traditional cultural dances choreographed for the stage. I definitely miss my college years!
What is my biggest struggle as a mom?
My learn-and-do lifestyle was challenged when I first became a mom. I lost myself and thought I couldn’t do anything anymore. I struggled with post-partum depression for a couple years. I picked up photography to capture my growing baby and, instead, it helped me grow.
I believe there is great value in knowing that I have passions and interests that I can still pursue with my growing family and all the needs they have!
My best advice for other moms?
Make time for you. I do my best to carve out time for myself regularly so that I can serve them better. I enjoy playing board and card games with friends, girls nights, mommy playgroups, hiking and exploring the great outdoors, and an occasional spa treatment like facials or massage.
Things I hope to make time for in the future?
I wish I had time for continuing education, Master Gardener program, teaching dance or dancing on an adult team, scrapbooking, pursuing a birth photography biz, and probably a whole lot more. But, the greatest thing is that when I take a step back, I am living my dream life!
I have 3 beautiful children who love and need me, a church community I take pride in loving and serving in, and a wonderful husband who provides for our needs so I can be at home where I’m needed most right now. A quote I wrote down from a mom course I took says, “The days are long when you are an empty-nester. Don’t try to do too much while your children are at home. There will be time later.” It’s obviously no guarantee, but today is the best day there is and I try my best to be present and love the life I have now along with the people in it, my family and God being most important to me. It’s one of my greatest challenges to live by this wise advise.
I look forward to getting to know you other women better here at MOMentity and supporting you in your life and dreams! Please look me up in the Facebook group!
